If I were to create an IQ test today I would include items that test the multiple intelligences of a person. Some people may excel in certain subjects/areas over another. A person may be better in reading comprehension than math but that does not make them less intelligent. I think that a person is born with an intelligence but then over time it can either increase or decrease depending on the education and the situations the child is exposed to. I think an IQ test should include both fluid and crystalized intelligence. Fluid intelligence is the ability to solve problems and reason. To test fluid intelligence I would include items such as finishing the missing pieces of a pattern. Crystallized intelligence is knowledge that is accumulated over time. This could be tested by giving a reading comprehension task.
As a person gets older their skills increase which would lead them to do better on an IQ test. I think it could be beneficial to do a longitudinal study to see the increase in a person's intelligence over time.
